10-Year-Old Jewish Girl can become Christian despite Mother's Objection

UK judge rules Jewish girl, age 10, mature enough to convert to Christianity -- against her mother’s wishes.
Her “encounter with God”
The complicated back-story: The girl was raised by Jewish parents, but her father became a Christian after the couple divorced in 2010. Her mother filed a court order last November after the girl requested to be baptized in her father's Anglican church following an "encounter with God" at an evangelical festival.
Judge John Platt ordered the mother's complaint dismissed and that arrangements for the girl's baptism be made.
The parents are forbidden from showing the court's decision to the girl. Instead, Judge Platt wrote a personal letter to the girl explaining his decision. "Sometimes parents simply cannot agree on what is best for their child," wrote Judge Platt, who noted his job is to "decide simply what is best for you."
COMMENT: The same thing happened 2,000 years ago when a Jewish man, named Saul, converted to become Christian, (no doubt) against his parents’ wishes. Saul’s conversion was also the result of an “encounter with God,” in the person of Christ. As the Church in Toronto begins our journey through Galatians— “Called to Freedom” —this brief news item should encourage us that the same thing is still happening today!—Nigel Tomes
